I’m having a hard time with this movement behind the murder of Trayvon Martin. I am disgusted by the cowardice acts committed by George Zimmerman, and the family absolutely deserves justice. I pray that they get it. I’m not going to echo the many sentiments that I’ve seen all over facebook, twitter, blog and news sites - I share the same outrage, obviously.

What I’m having a hard time with is how easily Black people are rising to the occasion, voicing outrage, protesting, petitioning and demanding prosecution for the murder of Trayvon Martin - which they should - but lack that same drive and determination when it comes to a Black man or woman dying at the hands of another Black man or woman. Why are we so constantly inconsistent? Why is it that when this same kind of senseless violence happens in our own communities we don’t speak up? Why has it been okay for youth to adapt the motto “stop snitchin”? Why? Two of my relatives were murdered at the hands of another Black man. Countless neighborhood and school friends have been killed by other Black men. A young lady very near and dear to my heart was murdered by her boyfriend and in an attempt to cover it up, he claimed a man in a hoodie robbed and shot them. Tyrone Love was killed in my community and his killer has yet to be found. The list goes…

With the exception of Tyrone Love, where are the protests? The petitions? The acts of solidarity? Why is it we can loudly assert that “we’re not standing for it” when the act is committed by someone “else”, but when the act is committed by one of our own, we’re not as loud? WHY?? I grieve everyday the loss of the above mentioned people and so many more. Let’s stand in solidarity every time a senseless crime or murder happens within our communities. When we’re having “the talk” with our youth about race and injustice, let’s also talk to them about the effects of Black on Black violence. It’s ALL bad.

I guess all I’m really saying is let’s not pick and choose when it comes to our outrage. Let’s not pick and choose when we’re going to take action. We should be making a statement that Black lives are valuable and no one has the right to take it away. No one.

I pray for peace for the family of Trayvon Martin. I pray for peace for the family of Ervin Jefferson. I pray for peace for my family. I pray for peace for your family. I write this in memory of “Tinky“…

every night throughout the world hundreds of people dream about this face

In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.

That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist’s desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.

The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.

From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Dehli, Moskow etc.

At the moment there is no ascertained relation or common trait among the people that have dreamed of seeing this man. Moreover, no living man has ever been recognized as resembling the man of the portrait by the people who have seen this man in their dreams.

So I rarely use tumblr to actually “blog”, but hell. I’m sitting at work, in a semi-shitty mood, reflecting on this past semi-shitty year and I totally don’t want to sound like one of those “emo” bloggers, because I am neither. So I guess I’m just using this platform to vent. [www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xVEa0SMxFg]

I called 2011 semi-shitty because although it has brought me a ton of experiences I wish to not repeat-EVER; it has also brought some amazing experiences that reiterate the meaning of gratitude and Love. I’ve been on some incredible adventures with the Man I Love, which led him to put a RAING on it. (Yes ya’ll, I’se engaged now, see: http://www.mywedding.com/aaronlovesjazmyn/index.html) THAT alone outweighs any of the pain I’ve experienced this year because I have a lifetime of Love and growth to look forward to and that’s a blessing.

But… In 2011 I was also hospitalized and diagnosed with a chronic health condition, I totaled my car (my FAVORITE car that I’ve owned to date), was a victim of theft twice and suffered several let-downs in my professional life. Overall though, I’ve learned from all of that. I learned ways to take better care of myself, I learned just having liability insurance is never enough, I learned not to trust a bank to keep your money secure and I learned that I will fail more than I succeed but I’m only defeated if I give up. These are all incredibly valuable lessons that I will take with me to ensure a better 2012!

So even though I’m in a semi-shitty mood right now, I have so much to look forward to for the year ahead and I’m already planning accordingly. I’ve got a wedding to plan, partnerships to cultivate and relationships to maintain. So to 2011 I say; Adios, Ciao, Sayonara, Au Revoir, Shalom, Deuces, Buh-Bye…GTFOH!!!
